I’ve been participating in a tournament this past weekend.  It will also be played next weekend.  It is representing the forces of Chaos assaulting the Ecclesiarchy holdings on the planet of Bray.  While I won’t be writing full battle reports, I’d like to give a view of the action, partly from the perspective of a gamer, and partly as my alter ego, Dracon El T’taes.

Recently, a Chaos Warlord who must remain unnamed contacted me to buy my assistance.  It seems that Kabal Rillishelwe Mor has developed quite a reputation as Raiders in their skirmishes with the Zensunni Empire, and news has traveled.  This warlord was attempting to invade a heavily defended Imperial planet and wanted some assistance in the assault.  He offered me several slaves just to hear his offer.  While I try to deal in slaves as little as possible, I felt it would be rude not to take them.  He outlined a bold plan that looked effective.  Bearing in mind the high possibility that the forces of Chaos might well try to stab us in the back, I bargained for a few adjustments that would make it easier for us to keep our distance from the Chaos forces, reducing the risk of betrayal.  Once the negotiations were finished, I had to choose a small force to be the spearhead of our forces, with a few additional forces held nearby to be transported to the surface as soon as possible.

Overall Plan: 4 days of fighting, one game per day.  1000pts in a standard force organization chart.  We were also required to have 2 additional detachments of 100pts each as potential reinforcements.

There is an interesting mix of forces in this tournament.  On the Chaos side, there are Iron Warriors, Undivided, Slaanesh and Nurgle (plus I believe Tzeetch should join us next week, Hi Mike!) as well as two Dark Eldar players.  On the Imperial side there are Space Wolves, 2 sets of Vanilla Marines and two Eldar players.  I think another set of vanilla Space Marines will be joining us next week (Hey Steve!)

Game 1: Planetfall, with the Chaos side as the Deepstriking Attackers.  I played vs Imperial Guard (1 Armored Fist squad in a Chimera, 1 Basilisk, 1 Leman Russ tank, a platoon of several squads of guys and a Lascannon Support squad, with a small command squad (fairly basic Captain and Commissar) and 3 Sentinels (2 w/H. Flamers, 1 w/Multilaser) Guard got hidden setup and Dark Eldar deepstruck in, taking the first turn.  Since I arrived after the first session of gaming, and no one else showed up to be my opponent, the tournament organizer, Lee from GW, played against me with an IG army from the store.  He was a really fun opponent and made lots of jokes.  I had a blast playing against him.

The initial drop for Strikeforce Rillishelwe Mor was to secure a power station.  We needed to secure the area so that following forces could be landed more easily.  The station was guarded by a medium sized force of Imperial Guardsmen, who were surprised by our appearance in their midst, but fought well.  We fell upon them quickly, attempting to silence them so that they could raise no alarm.  After our initial blaze of fire, assaults raged across the compound as my Warriors slashed their way through the Guardsmen.  Within a few minutes, we had secured the area, decimating the defenders and only leaving a few vehicles to be mopped up.

Since the invading forces made such a large landing area, winning battles in 4 of the six landing zones, we got to bring in some of our additional reinforcements.  I brought in Marg Isturrith (Whispering Death, a squad of 10 Warriors on foot, 2 of them armed with Dark Lances) to assist me in dealing with enemy Vehicles.

Game 2: Recon vs. Marines. (Chaplain on a bike, Full tactical squad on foot, 2 Full tac squads in Rhinos, Dreadnaught)  This was a great game, played against the Best General from the previous day.  He fought well and kept his eyes on the objective the whole time.  He managed to dogpile my initial assault with both his rhino squads and his chaplain, forcing my Dracon to flee the battle and get run down in the process.  Despite his best efforts, though, I managed to strike down his army to a man by concentration of firepower and assault.  Even when it was clear he was going to lose, he kept fighting and had a great attitude.  Winning is generally good, but doing so against a good opponent and a good sport made it really great.

On the second day of the assault, we had to size up the enemy forces and try to break through their lines.  Our strikeforce contacted a force of Space Marines that were moving up, presumably to retake the Power Plant.  Our speed of attack apparently caught the marines off-guard, since they hastily deployed in a small oasis as our Raiders fell upon them.  The marines put up a hard fight and we had to destroy them to a man.  A single Rhino managed to get away, but the squad it had carried was already mounted on our trophy racks.

Intelligence reports say that the forces of Chaos gained momentum today, carrying 5 of the six sectors of fighting.  The news, and our  outstanding victory, has bolstered the spirits of my Warriors and myself.  (My Dracon and 1 squad now count as fearless for the next game at least)  On the other hand, the Imperials now know we are coming and we’ll be hitting more fortified positions in the coming days.  (The Imperial side gets 100pts of booby traps for the next game.)

I hope you have enjoyed the reports so far, I plan on making them for next weekend’s encounters as well.

If you enjoyed this, email me and let me know
