Chaos Knights I had originally had the concept for going with Slaanesh in my army. One reason is that Slaanesh, at least on the 40k side, was almost never used (this was before the Lash of Submission,) so I figured it would be different and unusual. Another is that I had an awesome conversion idea for a pair of Champions, using Daemonette heads with sculpted-on hair (and facial hair on one) to make them look like twins. You can read about it here. Here's a picture of my knights all together. When I could bring them to bear effectively, they were nigh-unstoppable. I'm not sure why this pic came out in sort of sepia tones, but it still looks pretty cool. I put together and playtested the army against some of my Orcs and Goblins. It was partly to help me learn how to use the army and partly to help me understand how to play Fantasy. You can read the reports here, here and here. At every turn, however, I was tempted by the subtle siren song of Tzeentch. When I first conceived of the army (all Cavalry) I went into a GW store to ask their opinion and get some ideas. Well, when I first mentioned it, one of them recommended the Liber Chaotica and specifically mentioned a Tzeentch character that lead an all Chaos army. (I had asked about Slaanesh, but figured I'd take a look at the Tzeentch stuff, since he mentioned it. It was pretty cool, but not enough to sway me by itself.) Later, I was deciding how to paint them and I narrowed it down to 4 color schemes, one of which was very Slaaneshi, another more Tzeentchy. After painting a model in each scheme, it came down to those two, but the Tzeetch one looked better to pretty much everyone. Still later, I got to play a game with a friend and was beset with my lack of magic. Although it didn't win him the game, it certainly hurt my army a lot. I decided that I needed magic, but found that Chaos Sorcerors aren't great in close combat, and would take up one or more of my character slots, which would lower the punch of my army and not really give me much magic to use anyway. "Tzeentch does magic," the voice whispered in my ear, "Tzeentch Warrior-Wizards are VERY good at magic..." it said. Eventually, I decided that I'd been listening to Tzeentch long enough that I should try it out, so I ended up following the Changer of Ways. One of the fast units I was interested in for the army was Furies. Unfortunately, the models were absolute crap. I had purchased some Daemonettes when my focus was Slaanesh, so I picked up some Dark Elf Harpy Wings and added them to the Daemonettes. Et Voila! Some good-looking Furies! I added these Screamers later to allow me to use my various Daemons as a small Daemon army in 40k (this was before Codex: Daemons) When I played them in 40k, I obviously couldn't use my Knights, so I used one of the Dragon Ogres as a CC-oriented Daemon Prince. I had a lot of fun playing with this army, even for as short a time as it was. Some day I think I'll have to come back to fantasy and back to the knights.
