Money, it's a gas!
While cost isn't the only factor to consider in a new army, it's definitely a factor, particularly in the current economy. I was looking ahead to this army when the Christmas season rolled around, so I asked a few people for pieces that would help to make this army. Given those pieces and the LandRaiders and Terminators I already had, I came up with these lists of what I'd need and how much it would cost me to build each army...

I've been comparing each of my potential new armies in a variety of ways to find which one would be the best fit for me. In my last article I looked at how resilient each of my potential armies would be. Now I'm looking at how much each will cost.

DeathWing

I have every single piece that I need for this force, though I need to assemble the bikes and the Dreadnaught. I'll also need to make a powerfist for the Biker sergeant and I'll need to either get or make some Assault Cannon for the Terminators. That makes this army very inexpensive.

I have: All Terminators, Bike Sergeant and 2 Bikers, LandRaider and both Venerable Dreadnaughts.

I still need: Biker Captain, Attack Bike, 1 SM Biker, 4xSM Biker with Plasma Gun, Biker Sergeant. I'd also need to make a few modifications to models (1 Assault Cannon on a Terminator, Powerfist and Plasma Pistol on the biker sergeants.)

That would run me roughly...

SM Bike Squadx2: $90(I should be able to convert 1 of the Sergeants into a Biker Captain)

Total cost of this army would be $130

I still need: Daemon Prince with Wings, 8 Plague Marines, 2 Plague Champions, 2 Rhinos, 2 Obliterators. I'd also need to make some modifications to the Terminators (Chainfists are easy, the Reapers might be harder, as might the large number of powerweapons)

All that would run me roughly...
Daemon Prince with Wings: $35
8 Plague Marines, 2 Plague Champions: $70
2 Rhinos: $60
2 Obliterators: $44

Total cost of this army would be $209, definitely the most expensive of the three.

Money isn't the only consideration, but it's definitely a consideration. An expensive army can certainly be built, but it will take longer, as I'll have to build it more slowly and save up to do it. On the other hand, if I have a less expensive army, I can use that money for other things and I can build the army faster.
