Inspiration
Well, I've decided on Deathwing as my next army, but I'm feeling a little burnt out on 40k, so I figured I need some inspiration. Over time, I've saved a bunch of pictures of various miniatures that have really impressed me. I took a look through those images and came up with these. They won't all be used and even the ones that are used won't necessarily be used exactly as they are in the pictures. They did give me a bunch of good ideas and made me more excited about the idea of assembling (maybe even _converting_) and painting to a very high standard, my new army. For some of the pictures, I'll just let the picture speak for itself. Others, however, I'll add a caption about what I like about it, or what I might incorporate into my army.
This is a great and well-painted miniature, but it's the pose and the base that really gripped me on my hunt for inspiration.
Another great terrain base. I'm reminded of Moloch's comment about using larger bases to tell a story. Very cool.
This picture is actually the _base_ to a model.
This is a very cool battle-damage bit. I'm not sure that I'll include battle-damage on this army, but I like the idea of battle-damage.

This set of miniatures uses exciting bases, fake flying (supported by the flames) and Source-lighting!
This model and the massive base are extremely heavily detailed.
This is an example of muted non-metallic metal painting.
This is an extremely heavily detailed and well-painted model.
The same model, showing details of all the sculpting and converting that went into it.
 Really great lens effect here.
Amazing mural painted on the side of this LandRaider. I don't know that I'll be trying something like this with my army, but it's fabulous, and I'll be using LandRaiders, so I might just have to try something out. I seem to remember Ken Lacey saying that it's much more difficult to do NMM on a large scale (like with tanks) so maybe something like this will be my alternative.

Excellent example of NMM technique here.
 More fine NMM work.

This is an extreme example of NMM work, and it really caught my eye.

Good detail of a sculpted cape for a model in Terminator armor.
A cool mix of shiny NMM and non-shiny.
Decisions
I haven't decided exactly how I'll paint my new army, though I've gotten a lot of great ideas from this inspiration. I will definitely be attempting some NMM work on them, but I'm not sure if I'll do some, most or all of the model and whether I'll go matte or shiny. I'll probably have to do a couple of test models to see what it looks like and how much work is involved. I'll also have to decide how much converting I want to do on the models, preferably before I paint them. Finally, I'll have to decide what I want to do with the vehicles (LandRaiders, Dreadnaught, Bikes.) A lot of food for thought.
