Fantasy Orcs I picked up the books and set about figuring out how to play and what I had. After going through everything, I worked out that he'd given me roughly 1100pts worth of an army! After working out some ideas of how I wanted to play, I picked up some extra models and started painting. I settled on a quick scheme that looked good, since I'd be needing to paint a lot of models.
The concept I eventually developed became called Da Bigga Da Waagh! The inspiration came from a single line in the Orc and Goblin Codex. "An Orc will continue growing throughout it's life until it meets a bigger orc." The thought occurred to me, "What if an orc never met a bigger orc?" I decided to use a Giant as my "Orc Boss." I planned to pick up a Giant model, bulk it out and give it more Orcish features as well as extremely dark green skin. Since Giants are known for being clumsy, I thought I'd put a huge keg in his hand filled with beer.
To fit the theme, I wanted to include a unit of Trolls (modeled to look like big Orcs) as his Big 'Uns bodyguard. I'd then use various other Orcs and Goblins and even snotlings to round out the panoply of greenskin sizes.
Since Giants aren't actually technically capable of leading an Orc and Goblin army, I knew I'd need something else to act as the actual "General." Enter the Goblin Shamans. They are capable of leading an army, and they provide some useful magical backup for the muscle of the Orc army. I also rather liked the idea of playing some smart Goblins that trick the big Orc boss into doing what they want him to do, but make him think it was his idea. I had the idea of speaking in the voices of the two Shamans (Bubbles and Snotflicka) bantering back and forth. All in all, I had rather grandiose plans, but before I had gotten much past the planning stage, the Vancouver and Seattle GTs came up and then I needed to create a Fantasy Chaos army for the Storm of Chaos event. At this point, the army concept is dead until further notice. Perhaps some time in that distant future where I have plenty of free time, the army will rise again.
